Durban City Oust Golden Arrows

Lamontville Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi pulled no punches after his side’s Nedbank Cup quarter-final exit to 10-man Durban City on Sunday.

Despite holding leading the scoreboard for over 40 minutes, Arrows lost 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at King Zwelithini Stadium.

Mngqithi was visibly frustrated by his team’s inability to capitalize on Athini Jodwana’s 79th-minute red card. Speaking post-match, he labelled the performance “unprofessional” and “immature,” lamenting his players’ lack of tactical discipline.

“To play against ten men for over an hour [including extra time] and still fail to manage the game or find the clinical edge is unacceptable,” Mngqithi stated. “It was sheer immaturity that cost us today.”

While Mngqithi critiqued his squad’s “anxiety,” Durban City celebrated reaching their first-ever semi-final. The semi-final draw will take place this evening, at 20:30.
